WP4: Developing a New Medium

Before taking this class, I had a very limited perspective on writing and how it related to me. While I enjoyed reading books and interacting with different written mediums, my personal writing style didn’t stray far from what teachers’ requirements were for certain assignments. …

Post 10: Unexpected Growth — a Response to “My Epic Plant: T-Plan”

My Epic Plant: T-Plan How growing a plant is quite niceandresecitrus.medium.com When Andres’ post popped up in my Medium feed, I was excited to see his insights regarding “plant parenting” and how he handled the process. However, as I read through his published piece, I was specifically caught on his highlighted importance of finding the smaller things to care for to…

Emily Quintanilla

Hey Emily!

Hey Emily! I totally understand where you're coming from in regards to the freedom which unfiltered and unapologetic writing can provide for the author. As someone who also considers themselves a bit of a perfectionist while still managing to procrastinate on important tasks, I can relate to your struggles with starting to work towards finishing WP3 despite having a thorough outline and list of sources. However, as seen by your work from the previous two writing projects along with your writing that you’ve demonstrated in your posts, you have the skills and capabilities to clearly illustrate your story and message to your audience. After reading your WP3, I can say that your writing project not only accomplished the tasks of the goals you’ve set for yourself, but it also showcased the essence of your true intellectual identity. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do next with WP4!

Post 9: The Anthems of “Eve”

As I was listening to Spotify while working on finalizing my WP3 draft, “Nina” by Rapsody started playing out of my phone’s speaker. At this moment, I realized that, in the midst of working towards completing my larger writing projects for this class, I had completely forgotten to write a…

Post 8: Struggling to (Time) Manage

My connection with time is a bit of a love-hate relationship. The elusive social construct has only managed to become harder to mentally keep a hold of over the past year, where weeks after weeks were spent staying-at-home. When jumping into an online university experience after quite a long summer…

Post 7: CAUTION- Handle with Care

Labels. While they can be helpful at times when needing to be informed of something important, they often are utilized to identify and separate. Having to set up a label for my intellectual identity for WP3 was personally a very difficult process to undergo. As someone who has tried to…

Post 6: The Life Behind a Virtual Curtain

March 12th, 2020 was the day that theatre lights went out on Broadway. At the time, we thought it simply meant “taking a break for a couple of weeks to let things settle”. Over a year later, many theatre doors still remain closed and bolted. While theatre artists temporarily paused…

Post 5: Back to the Drafting Board

This semester, I’ve interacted with cross-curricular aspects that have provided unique learning opportunities in reflecting upon fields I normally wouldn’t have correlated with each other. The greatest example of this is found between my work within this course (WRIT-150) along with my that in my “Art of Theatrical Design” class…

Post 4: Changing My Major

After holding off on writing this post for months, it’s time to talk about my change in major. On February 7th, I officially changed my major from a BFA in theatrical design to technical direction. While it practically is just a simple shift of emphasis with a fancier title, I…

WP3: Into The Light

My journey as a creative intellectual has involved an exploration with many twists and turns over the past nineteen years, yet it has led to a place in which I finally feel confident about labelling my current intersectional identity. While the breakthrough of discovering that I was a woman pursuing…
